Greater Amman Municipality
Amman is one of the most ancient cities in the world, dating back to 7500 B.C and is enriched by the ruins of the civilizations passing through it. This year, Amman will be celebrating the Centennial of the establishment of its first Municipal Council back in 1909.
During the course of the hundred year journey, Amman has witnessed a progressive development of its various sectors; From a small village to a modern city, and from a Municipal Council into the Greater Amman Municipality, we were able, along with those who were here before us, to develop the level and type of services that the Municipality offers Ammanis.
General Philosophy
The Centennial Celebrations aim to conserve the City’s spirit and identity through reinforcing communication methods with citizens of every segment and age group; school and university students, orphans and people with special needs. Additionally, it aims at endorsing different events; formal and public activities that include cultural, social, historical, art and entertainment, as well as encourage local communities, private and public organizations to participate in the celebrations.
The Greater Amman Municipality prepared a tourism strategy plan for Amman in 2007, which aims at addressing all possible ways and opportunities to make Amman a significant tourism destination.
Greater Amman Municipality executed several public parks and developed other projects such as Al Wakalat Street and Rainbow Street, and are still working on many projects and initiatives such as the Citadel (Jebel Al-Qala'a), the Hashemite Plaza (Al Saha al Hashmeyya), the Roman Theater area and Faisal Plaza (Sahat Faisal), which all contribute to enhancing the experience of visitors and residents of Amman. |
